Parents...Don't let this happen to your daughters!
"You Can Prevent ACL Injuries."
If you have a daughter who is playing basketball, softball, volleyball, soccer, (or other field or court sports.) then it is crazy if her team isn't undertaking one of the evidenced based warm-ups and training targeting lower limb injury prevention.
Scary Statistic #1: About 50,000 female athletes at the high school and college levels sustain serious knee injuries each year.
Scary Statistic #2: ACL injuries are 4-6 times more common in women.
Scary Statistic #3: ACL surgery requires 6-36 months of rehabilitation. 77% of people having an ACL surgery have sports disability within 5 years, and 44% have a daily living disability within 5 years.
Scary Statistic #4: The July 29,2002 issue of Soccer America reported that "nearly one quarter of the players in the WUSA have torn ACL's at some point in their playing careers.
Their has been an epidemic of sorts in the past few years regarding ACL injuries and young female athletes. That being the majority of ACL injuries that occur are of the non-contact variety, essentially no direct contact led to the injury itself. So, if the majority of ACL injuries are in fact non-contact based, then either biological or mechanical issues are to blame. That is, either the injuries are due to unfortunate yet genetic structural dysfunctions or the result of improper loading and mechanical faults, which is a matter of poor coaching.
What are the consequences of an ACL injury?
If you're a coach, your student athlete is out for at least a season. If you're a parent you've landed a medical bill approaching $25,000, with the shared heartaches and challenges for your athlete during their pre-op, surgery, post-op, medical rehabilitation, and post-rehab training.

No more excuses...WAKE UP PARENTS AND COACHES! Now that we know better, we must do better for our daughters and female athletes. In order to solve this problem I have developed the ACL INJURY PREVENTION PROGRAM! Look...no program can prevent all ACL injuries, but with the FMS (Functional Movement Screen that we do to look at compensations, energy leaks and weaknesses in the body.) a proper athletic development program, along with education we can dramatically reduce the odds of a knee injury occuring. Here's where the debate and argument gets heated for me...I've been a critic for years on the "Quick Fix" short term training approach. Far too many coaches, parents, training facilities buy into the..."Increase Your Vertical and Speed in 4 Weeks!" or "Add 25 Pounds Of Muscle In 2-6 Weeks!" Worrying and promoting those high speed treadmills, or the "toys" instead of focusing on developing fundamental, multi-joint and systematic strength, and learning the most efficient means of running, stopping, jumping, landing, change of directions, etc. Perfecting safe and sound movement patterns. Actually TEACH young athletes to run, accelerate, deccelerate, jump, land and move before you program endless hours of drills and exercises.

Too many athletes end their athletic careers not because they want to, but because they have to.
